The high class cruise ship Silver Discoverer operated by Silversea Cruises docked at Kanazawa Port for the first time on 4th September.

The Silver Discoverer is a luxury liner famous for its splendid facilities and services. The inside of the ship matches that of a high class hotel, fitted out with restaurants, bars, and gyms, and bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and verandas. Roughly 80 guests from USA and UK were on board and came to see the sights of Kanazawa.

With cruise ships helping to pull in tourists to Ishikawa, Governor Tanimoto commented saying that “The docking of a high class ship raises the status of Kanazawa Port, and elevates its profile as a cruise port hub”.

Ishikawa Prefectural government is also focusing on the sustainment of cruise ship traffic at Kanazawa Port. As a result, there will be 10 cruises operating between Kanazawa Port and Busan Port next summer. As well as Ishikawans, the Shinkansen can bring people from Tokyo and those that live along the line to the ships, allowing them to enjoy the sights of Ishikawa before setting sail or after docking. With this, we can expect a further gains for the economy.

The prefectural government will be continuing with initiatives to turn Kanazawa Port into a cruise hub that will prosper economically, using high class liners and regular cruise ships as the pillars for success
