A Message from the Governor

Governor of Ishikawa Prefecture
Masanori Tanimoto

Governor of Ishikawa Prefecture:Masanori Tanimoto

The land we call our home, Ishikawa Prefecture, is located approximately in the middle of Japan and Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula extends out into the Sea of Japan. The capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, Kanazawa, lies in the central Kaga Plain region. The Prefecture is blessed with beautiful sea and mountain scenery, including the sacred Mt.Hakusan, and is home to 1.16 million persons.

Ishikawa boasts of a number of traditional folk crafts and performing arts including Wajima lacquerware, Kutani porcelain, Noh drama, traditional Japanese music and so on; Ishikawa is known for festivals rich in character along with the nature blessed with an assortment of flavors, impeccable hospitality and precious heritage that has been handed down through generations to present day.

Furthermore, there is a concentration of higher academic institutes and enterprising small and medium sized industries. Thanks to these advantages of Ishikawa in combination with the expansion of the Komatsu Airport’s domestic and international aviation network, the opening of the Noto Airport, the number of domestic as well as foreign visitors has increased significantly in recent years.

As we move further into the 21st century, Ishikawa hopes to deepen its exchanges with the people from all over the world and present itself as the Prefecture that is the ‘heart of Japan’ where the local residents as well as visitors will be able to feel the richness of life, comfort and peace of mind.

We hope that this website will help you in understanding Ishikawa better.
